About
Our forest trail camera
A motion-activated camera in the woods records a still photo and a short video clip whenever something passes by. Every hour this page picks up new sightings, and each clip gets a best-guess name for the animal in it.
Animal names are identified automatically and may occasionally be wrong. Spotted something interesting? Share it with your neighbors!
How videos work
Our camera plan includes a limited number of video clips, and some visitors (looking at you, squirrels) stop by dozens of times a day. So that one busy animal can't use them all up, we automatically fetch a video only for:
- the first sighting of each kind of animal in any 4-hour window, so a new or different animal always gets its video;
- up to 10 automatic videos a day in total;
- and never for frames where no animal was spotted.
Every other photo still appears in the gallery, as a smaller "More … sightings" photo. Its video is available on demand: open the photo and tap Get the video, and it usually arrives within a few minutes.
